Suspected armed bandits have attacked some villages in Goronyo local government area of Sokoto state killing more than twenty persons.
A source in the local government said the assailants arrived the villages at night armed with sophisticated weapons and started shooting sporadically.
The source said more than twenty villagers were killed while houses and other properties were destroyed.

He said many others have fled their homes to seek refuge in nearby communities within Goronyo and Isa local government areas of Sokoto state.
Confirming the attack, Police Public Relations Officer Sokoto state police command, Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq said the attack took place in Dan Tatsako village, but the number of casualties cannot be ascertained.
