Governor, Darius Ishaku, of Taraba has signed into law a bill that prescribes the death sentence for those convicted in the state of kidnapping and abduction.
The bill which was sponsored by the speaker house of Assembly Mr Peter Abel Diah, and passed with overwhelming support by members of the assembly, is intended to help contain kidnapping which is today a major concern in Taraba.
Under the new law, anybody found guilty of abduction or kidnapping in the state will pay the supreme price for it.
The law is a result of the government’s concern about rising insecurity, particularly, kidnapping for money which is rampant in the state and other parts of the country.
In the last two years, about 20 persons, some of them government officials have been kidnapped from their homes and on the highways while travelling.
It is expected that the new law will go along way in checking this menace.
