Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has described the deliberate attempt in some quarters to misrepresent president Muhammadu Buhari’s comments on foreign exchange to food importers as unfortunate
He said the Central Bank had restricted access to foreign exchange on about 43 food items before the President’s comment. He said this at the ongoing 2019 Presidential retreat at the Aso Villa in Abuja.
Social and economic analysts have criticised the president Buhari’s stand on restricting foreign exchange to food importers
In defence, Godwin Emefiele said the president’s comment was to strengthen and support the Central Bank of Nigeria on it’s foreign exchange policy
The restriction on the foreign exchange is in order to improve the wealth of the Nigerian rural communities as the country yearns for growth and development
