FCT Police arrest five suspected kidnappers’ informants

The Police in the Federal Capital Territory said it arrested five suspected informants to kidnappers terrorising communities in Abaji Area Council

and environs.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, Bala Ciroma, disclosed this during a news conference in Abuja.

Ciroma said the informants were arrested by the FCT Community Policing arm of the FCT Police Command. He added that the five suspects had made useful information to the Police to facilitate the arrest of their cohorts.

Sifon Essien reports that Abaji, one of 6 Area Councils, on the outskirts of Abuja has been notorious for kidnapping. Apart from creating fear, the spike in kidnapping in the agrarian community has heightened distrust among its residents.

In November 2018, the Vice-chairman of the Area Council was killed, 10 days after he was kidnapped. In a bid to curb the crime trend, the FCT Police Commissioner in June came up with a security programme that is community-driven.

The suspects confessed to the roles they played in kidnapping. The command is optimistic that with more citizen support its crime-fighting technique, which is community-based, will record more results in days to come.
