The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has challenged the International Police Crime Organization, INTERPOL, to track those behind the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in Nigeria.
Adamu attributes the country’s security challenges to illicit weapons.
Defence Correspondent Sifon Essien reports that the ceremony marks the formal opening of a conference by the international police crime organization, INTERPOL, in Abuja.
This is the first time the Nigeria police would be hosting national police operatives of the 194 member country organization which acts as a secure communication platform to enable an inclusive action in crime fighting.
Criminality has assumed a borderless dimension. Acts like Terrorism, illicit financial flows, trafficking in persons have far reaching consequences among countries. And INTERPOL possesses a secure platform for intelligence sharing in what is known as i-24/7..

So far, the activities of INTERPOL has aided the tracking of criminals and safeguarded INEC’s server from being hacked during the 2019 elections.
The conference is part of activities marking the INTERPOL week, and participants are optimistic that working together, the world would be made safer.
