A manhunt is now on for the kidnap kingpin who was set free on Wednesday following an attack on Police operatives by soldiers in Taraba state.
Alhaji Hamisu has been on the Police wanted list for his complicity in several high-profile kidnap cases including the recent abduction of an Oil-Mogul in Taraba State wherein a ransom of about One Hundred Million Naira was paid.
He is now on the run after being allegedly freed by soldiers who killed three police officers and one civilian along Ibi-Wukari road in Taraba state.
The incident has put the Police and the army at loggerheads with the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, ordering a full investigation into the matter.
The Police was conveying the suspect to Command Headquarters in Jalingo, when they came under fire by soldiers who shot and killed three personnel and a civilian, despite sufficient proof that they are Police personnel on legitimate duty.
The army insists the troops exchanged fire with people they thought were kidnappers.
Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sagir Musa, said the vehicle carrying the policemen refused to stop when they were halted by troops at three checkpoints.
This is a subject of contention as the police earlier said the operatives had gone through three check points and clearly identified themselves.
