Following the recent outbreak of yellow fever in Ebonyi state, confirmed outbreak has been recorded in Bauchi state.
The Director General of the Nigeria’s centre for disease control Chikwe Ihekweazu, in a statement said the agency received the report of a confirmed case of yellow fever in Kano State from a laboratory in its network.
The outbreak is also linked to the death of four students of the College of Education, Waka-Biu, Borno who visited Yankari Game Reserve on a field trip
According to the statement, three of the confirmed cases are residents of Alkaleri Local Government Area while the fourth case is a tourist who also visited the Yankari Games Reserve.
The NCDC says a rapid response team has been sent to support Bauchi State.
It also adds that that the vaccine is available for free in all primary healthcare centres in Nigeria and families are advised to keep environments clean to discourage breeding of mosquitoes.
