The Benue Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Makurdi has adopted the final written addresses in a petition challenging governor Samuel Ortom’s reelection.
Mayowa Okunato reports that governor Samuel Ortom accompanied by members of the Benue State Executive Council, made an appearance at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
They were there to witness the adoption of final written addresses in a petition filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC,
Emmanuel Jime. Also in attendance was the Deputy Governorship candidate to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
After the session in court, the Governor of Benue State expresses his confidence that the judgment will swing in his favour. The counsel to the peoples democratic party said that the petitioners were unable to prove their case due to insubstantial evidence.
Meanwhile the counsel to Emmanuel Jime also says that the lack of witnesses by the All Progressives Congress, APC, will place the PDP on the winning side.
The date for judgement is yet to be announced as both candidates of the gubernatorial elections, which held 23rd February this year, remains
confident of winning at the tribunal.
