The minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi has embarked on a 3-day official visit to frontlines in the war against the insurgency in the North East, to determine first hand the Operational capabilities of the fighting troops stationed in the region
Borno state has witnessed surprise attacks from Boko Haram fighters in Gubio and Magumeri, both Northern communities in the State.
TVC News Correspondent, Kolomi Dala, who was on tour with the Defence Minister reports that it was the minister’s maiden visit to the troubled region. Upon arrival, he immediately proceeded to interact with top commanders of Operation Lafiya Dole at the headquarters of the Theatre
command.
After discussions with the operational commanders, the defence minister moved on to visit troops at the front lines in Gubio and Magumeri.
While inspecting their Operational capabilities, he had time to also interact with residents and reassure them of the commitment of the Presidency.
General Magashi pledged that some of the issues confronting the fighting Troops stationed at the frontlines, would be addressed.
The Defence Minister returned to Maiduguri and paid a visit to injured soldiers receiving treatment at the 7 Division Medical Centre.
General magashi read out the Presidential message to the troops of operation Lafiya Dole at their headquarters, where he assured them of the federal government’s support at all times.
On his last day of the visit, he paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Borno state and was received by his Deputy who showed appreciation to the President and the fighting Troops stationed in Borno state.
The Defence minister was pleased with the level of support and cooperation being rendered to the troops and calls for areas of cooperation to assist in ending the war.
The Defence minister ‘s visit brings the troops renewed hope that the welfare and other issues slowing down the pace of the war will be promptly addressed.
Residents can only hope that the renewed commitment by government will bring in its wake, lasting solutions that will bring an end to this senseless war, which has been on since 2009.
