A federal high court in Abuja has ordered that the convener of the Revolution Now protest, Omoyele Sowore, be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services.
He is to be remanded alongside his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, pending the hearing of their bail application.
Celestina Iria has the reports that that the Convener of the #RevolutionNow protest and his co-defendant were arraigned on a seven count charge of treasonable felony and fraud instituted against them by the Federal Government.
The second defendant Mr Bakare, is being accused of treason for his involvement in organizing the protest. Sowore pleaded not guilty to the seven counts read to him.
The defendants took their pleas, after which the defense lawyer, urged the court to allow Sowore continue with the bail earlier granted him on 24th of September. The defense lawyer also pleaded that the second defendant be granted fresh bail.
The trial Judge, felt that since the bail earlier granted Sowore was not predicated on the charges for which he was arraigned, he had to be granted fresh bail. She added that granting the bail was to be based on a formally written application and not an oral one and directed his counsel to file the bail application and adjourned hearing.
The application is to be served on the lead prosecuting counsel, who intends to oppose the application. Hearing on the bail application filed by Mr Sowore’s Counsel,has been fixed for October third.
