The Gombe state Police Command has arrested a suspect believed to have kidnapped a seven year old boy in Gombe.
The victim helped identify his abductor who had demanded a three point five million naira ransom.
Correspondent Lanre Adeyemi reports that Gombe , the Gombe State Capital was once regarded as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful cities.
With a crime rate much lower than the national average, Gombe was a haven in the embattled northeast region. But the story is beginning to change. Residents now tell tales of armed robbery, theft, rape and now kidnapping on a daily basis
Three incidents of kidnapping have occurred in the last two weeks within Gombe town. the latest is the abduction of a seven year old.
After the victim regained freedom, the alleged mastermind visited the family to sympathize with them over their ordeal. But his earlier calls for ransom and phone number gave him away.
The police also paraded other suspects accused of committing crimes ranging from armed robbery to culpable homicide.
Law enforcement agencies in Gombe are now working hard to keep residents safe amid efforts to control the crime wave.
