California representative, Katie Hill has resigned from Congress following allegations that she had an affair with a campaign staffer .
Her resignation comes days after she was placed under investigation by the House of Representatives Ethics committee for allegedly engaging in an improper relationship with a congressional staffer in violation of house rules banning relationships between members and their staff.
Ms. Hill denies the allegations, saying she is stepping down with a broken heart as it is the best decision for her constituents, community and country.
Hill added that her resignation was necessary so that people who have helped her aren’t further subjected to “the pain inflicted by my abusive husband and the brutality of hateful political operatives.”
