The chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai has distributed relief materials to some Cameroonian refugees in line with the army’s co-operate social responsibility strategy of assisting the needy.
Correspondent Owolabi Adenusi reports that more than 13,000 Cameroonians have taken refuge in Taraba State having fled unrest in their home country.
The Chief of Army Staff who was represented by the General Officer Commanding of Three Division Jos, reiterated the army’s commitment to carrying out its constitutional responsibility of protecting the nation’s territorial integrity.
The refugees are asked to assist security agents with relevant information that will keep crime away from their camp.
The King of Mambilla Plateau, thanked the army for the gesture. He is confident military presence in the area will restore peace. The refugees are given medical aid as well.
The Taraba state government had earlier directed all local governments and traditional rulers to support the refugees as reciprocation for Cameroon’s
hospitality when residents of the Mambilla Plateau fled across the border during a crisis last year.
