The ECOWAS Parliament has called for the reopening of Nigeria’s land border describing its closure as running contrary to ECOWAS Protocols.
This call was made at the opening session of the 2nd ordinary session of 2019 in Monrovia
The session will be the last for the 4th legislature as it winds up on the 3rd of February, 2020
It is the first time the Regional body will be commenting on the closure of Nigeria’s land borders and it expressed concern that it violates its protocols on regional integration
The President of the Parliament reeled out the efforts of the legislative body in fast tracking integration and meeting other objectives of ECOWAS.
The President of the ECOWAS Commission who was represented said, on the economic sphere, the region’s economic performance was better
New members were also sworn in at the opening ceremony.
The 3 week long session will consider the security concerns within the region, the community’s budget and other important matters
