France-based conglomerate, Lagardère, has threatened to sue the Confederation of African Football, CAF, for it’s decision to cancel its global media and sponsorship rights agreement with it.
CAF terminated the 12-year agreement worth one billion dollars, which covered the sale of its media and sponsorship rights internationally from 2017 to 2028.
Lagardere has described it as a “unilateral decision” that was “unlawful, unreasonable and unjustified”.
The deal is a subject of an ongoing investigation by the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, COMESA, Competition Commission.
A decision is yet to be reached
