The Ijaw Youth Council has called for the immediate dissolution of the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission. President of the council, Eric Omare thanked the Senate for confirming members of the new board but called for an immediate inauguration to address the worsening state of the East – West road and perennial flooding in the states.
A sixteen member new Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on the 27th of
August this year.
Two months later, a three – man Interim Management Committee was inaugurated for the NDDC by the Minister Of Niger Delta Affairs Godswill
Akpabio.
This development has attracted negative response from many groups in the oil – rich region, including the Ijaw Youth Council.
The worsening state of the East-West road and the ravaging impact of the flood on communities of the Niger Delta could have been addressed if the
Board had inaugurated.
