President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, said his administration is committed to the promotion of the ideals of a productive nation given the significant role of productivity in wealth creation and improved standard of living for the people.
TVC News Correspondent, Joke Adisa reports that 25 deserving individuals and seven organizations were the recipients of this year’s National Productivity Order of Merit Award.
Nigerians who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to national growth and development are honoured at this year’s National Productivity Day celebration.
They stood out in creativity, innovation, high performance, job creation, efficiency, discipline and patriotism.
The Nigerian government believed its economic policies are gradually returning the country to the path of growth, especially with the current rating on the World Bank’s 2020 Ease of Doing Business, which improved from 146 position in 2018 to 131.
Notable among the awardees is the Chairman, Editorial Board, The Nation Newspaper, Sam Omatseye and the host of a television show, The Platform, an edgy political programme on TVC News.
Mr. Omatseye was nominated by The Nation Newspaper for his commendable honesty, moral leadership, exemplary team spirit and for being the most consistent columnist in Nigeria.
The versatile journalist has won several laurels locally and internationally since 1991 when he won the Nigerian Media Merit Award as Best Reporter for his coverage of the military crash in Ejigbo, Lagos.
He has also won the Nigerian Media Merit Award for Columnist of the year three times and the Diamond Award for Media Excellence four times for Informed commentary.
In 2011, he became the first Nigerian to win both the NMMA and DAME the same year.
Mr. Omatseye and some of the awardees say the honour will spur them to do more
National Productivity Day and conferment of National Productivity Order of Merit Award is one of the flagship programmes of Government designed to institutionalize productivity consciousness and excellence in service among workers and organisations.
Also honoured are Messrs Aliko Dangote, Oba Otudeko, Tony Elumelu, Ahmeed Ali, Georgina Ehuriah, Aishatu Abubakar and Richard Egbule.
