Former Liverpool player and Munich midfielder , Xabi Alonso has been acquitted of tax fraud by a Provincial Court in Madrid, where he faced a five-year prison sentence.
Prosecutors claimed Alonso evaded nearly 2 million pounds taxes from image rights between 2010 and 2012 while he was playing for Real Madrid.
Alonso was tried on a three count charge by the court after insisting on his innocence rather than opting to pay fines to the Spanish Treasury over the allegations.
High profile Footballers including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and New Totthenham Hotspur Manager, Jose Mourinho have been imposed with fines by Spanish authorities over tax evasion in the last few years.
