An Algerian court on Tuesday delivered its verdict in the trial for the historic corruption of two former prime ministers.
This is coming two days before a presidential election which protesters want canceled.
Ahmed Ouyahia, who served as prime minister four times, was sentenced to 15 years in prison with $16,000 in fines while Abdelmalek Sellal, a two-time premier, was sentenced to 12 years in prison with $8,000 in fines.
Both former ministers served under longtime president Abdelaziz Bouteflika who was pushed out by protesters earlier this year.
They were accused of corrupt practices in a car assembly business as well as secretly funding the fifth term agenda of the then President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
The court in Algiers also handed 10-year prison terms to two former industry ministers, and sentences ranging from three to seven years to five prominent businessmen.
