China has suspended U.S. military visits to Hong Kong and also sanctioned several American non-governmental organisations.
This is in response to a legislation, the Hong Kong human rights and democratic act, passed by U.S. lawmakers in support of protesters.
A trade deal has now been stalled as the Chinese foreign ministry says the U.S backing for protesters in Hong Kong was a serious interference in Chinese affairs.

It also warns that further sanctions could come.
There are fears that the dispute over Hong Kong could impact efforts by Beijing and Washington to reach a preliminary deal to de-escalate a prolonged trade war between the world’s two largest economies.
