Dozens killed in Mogadishu car bomb attack

At least seventy nine persons have been killed after a car bomb exploded at a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.

One hundred and forty nine persons were also injured, multiple vehicles and nearby houses destroyed in the attack, the country’s worst this year.

Authorities have dispatched security forces and emergency services to the scene on Afgoye road in the suburbs of Mogadishu.

Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali, says the government will airlift the wounded to neighboring countries if necessary.

So far, no organisation or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
