The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, said it will centre its focus on sanitising the maritime sector.
Correspondent Uche Okoro attended a rally organised by the commission’s south-south zone at this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day in Port Harcourt.
The eight-kilometre walk began from the zonal headquarters of the EFCC in GRA. It was led by the commission’s Zonal head and the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, alongside other top Government officials. The procession went through Azikiwe road before terminating at the Mile one market on Ikwerre road.
The aim was to raise awareness and galvanize public support in the fight against corruption. But narrowing down its objective this year, the EFCC is pushing for a corruption-free maritime sector.
For Governor Nyesom Wike, the anti-corruption war can only be won if the rule of law and due process is applied by the EFCC.
Key players in the maritime sector such as regulatory agencies, trade unions and civil society groups were also represented at the rally.
