FG expresses satisfaction with progress made in past four years

The federal government said it is satisfied with how the nation has fared in the past four years.

The minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, made the assertion in Lagos when he gave a scored-card of what president Buhari’s administration has achieved in since May 2015 in light of what the APC team met when it came to power.

TVC NEWS Political correspondent Ademola Lawrence whao was at the press briefing reports that the year 2019 has been one that came with a bag of mixed fortunes for Nigerians.

The minister said there is cause to be grateful, given what the current administration has achieved in its four-year stay in power and what the narrative was as at the time President Buhari was sworn in, in May 2015.

According to Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in the economy, the Buhari-administration piloted an economy that grew at an average of 2.2% over the first three quarters of 2019 compared to 1.7% within the same period in 2018.

The minister also added that the oil sector grew at an average of 4% over the last 3 quarters compared to 2.4 percent in 2018, while the non-oil sector grew by 2% in 2019, compared to 1.7 percent in 2018.

According to the minister, Nigeria’s increasing debt profile can not be blamed on the administration, revealing that loans were needed to reverse the nation’s infrastructure deficit.

One of the priorities of the Buhari administration is the fight against corruption, which was also part of the score card the minister highlighted.

The minister said the fight against terrorism is yielding results, but that terrorists cannot be linked to any religion in particular.
He also highlighted the benefits of border closure.

He refuted rumours about him being the sponsor of the hate speech bill .

The government’s score card notwithstanding, many believed the journey to turning Nigeria’s fortunes around is still far from its finishing point.
