World Football governing body, FIFA has filed a lawsuit against former president Sepp’ Blatter and Michel Platini over a 2 million swiss franc paid to Platini in 2011.
The action was taken after a unanimous resolution was adopted by FIFA’s Governance Committee to recover funds illicitly paid by any of it’s officials.
Blatter and Platini were both issued eight-year ban from all football-related activities by FIFA in 2015 over the shady payment, with a FIFA investigation revealing there was “no legal basis” for the payment to Platini.
Both men have argued that the payment was part of an verbal agreement between them and was meant to cover payment to Platini for the four years he served as an advisor to Blatter from 1998-2002.
FIFA insist the funds, when recovered along with the interest value, will be fully deployed into global football development.
