The former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke’s bail application will be heard today at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Mr Adoke filed the bail application on account of ill-health last Tuesday, but the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is opposed to the move and will be presenting a counter application before Justice O.A. Musa of the FCT High Court.
The anti-graft agency says the former attorney general had not exhibited any sign of ill-health and might jump bail and escape.
The EFCC is also concerned about possible interference with witnesses it might wish to contact.
Mr Adoke is being investigated with other suspects, over the 1.09 billion dollar Malabu Oil Block deal and he wants the court to grant him bail on self-recognizance having voluntarily returned to the country from the United Arab Emirates Dubai.
The EFCC had secured an order from an FCT High Court to keep Mr Adoke in custody for 14 days, which will expire on January 2, 2020.
