The Nasarawa State Government has procured relief materials worth millions of naira for Internally Displaced Persons affected by flood disasters in three local government areas of the state.
Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Zachary Allumaga, said the relief materials is to enable the IDPs resettle back to
their homes.
Godwin Agwam reports that frequent floods were among the natural disasters that affected Nigerians in 2019. It rendered thousands homeless and jobless, especially those who engaged in farming and fishing activities.
In Nasarawa state, about sixty communities across three local government areas namely, Toto, Nasarawa and Doma were affected. Their houses, farm lands were overtaken by flood, forcing many to relocate to nearby highlands.
With the coming of the dry season, the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) has procured relief materials to aid their return home. The Executive Secretary outlined some of the materials procured.
The agency said it awaits data of displaced persons from the affected local government areas to commence distribution.
