The Ogun state government has appealed to residents to keep their environment clean and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse to prevent diseases.
Some residents are indiscriminately dumping refuse and this, an act many said is capable of compromising the health of the people. They believed strange diseases and different health challenges may arise due to lack of proper care for the environment and waste management system.
Concerned by the increasing level of violation of waste management rules in Ogun State, the Director of the Waste Management Agency in the State
said some residents have refused to do what is expected of them and the agency is ready to arrest violators as deterrents to others.
He also confirmed that the Government is planning to ensure that waste are collected from house to house to stop residents from dumping refuse at an unapproved locations.
Some residents appreciate the idea but appealed that such should be a continuous exercise. They added that despite the efforts of the government, residents are also expected to maintain a high sense of personal and environmental hygiene for the good of all.
