Customs Strike force in the Western zone has impounded drugs worth more than N150 million and almost 1000 bags of foreign rice with Duty Paid Value of 203 million naira in the last two weeks.
TVC News Correspondent, Ifunanya Eze reports that the unregistered drugs include 474 cartons of Longsra tablets as well as 421 cartons of Heigra tablets that were falsely declared.
Other seizures include more than 1,500 kegs by 25 litres of vegetable oil worth more than 13 million naira and 176 cartons of frozen poultry products which have been destroyed.
Also in the custody of the zonal team are one thousand bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice and a container load of tyres declared as buses, as well as used vehicles.
The Strike force commander, says inspite of the border closure, smugglers continue to deploy different antics to bring in contraband.
The taskforce said its intervention has led to revenue generation of more than N54 million naira raised through debit notes.
