Former Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joseph Akinlaja has been elected as the Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party in Ondo State.
Mr Akinlaja, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, emerged victorious through a voice vote at the state congress of the party in Akure.
Ayodeji Moradeyo reports that the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP is putting its house in order for future tasks after a dismal performance in the 2019 general election in Ondo State.
Former Governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko presided over the election. Delegates from the eighteen local government areas of the state participated in the exercise.
At the end of the congress, Joseph Akinlaja, a former Deputy President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC was elected unopposed, as the Chairman of the party in the state.
In his acceptance speech, Akinlaja promised to reform the party and commended the South-West governors for introducing a security initiative codenamed Amotekun.
Mimiko said everybody must have access to decent healthcare, in line with the party’s belief. He stressed that Nigeria can only be free from shackles of poverty, if government provides for the downtrodden.
