Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has charged Squadron Commanders, Counter Terrorism and Special Protection Unit Commanders to demonstrate competence and firm leadership in the line of duty or risk disciplinary action.
Reports of uncivil behaviour towards citizens, misuse of firearms, deployment of personnel on unauthorized duties and mounting of illegal road
blocks by personnel of the Nigeria police force, has been rife in recent times. A trend police boss is not happy with the trend .
At the meeting between the Inspector General of police and commanders of various units, the IGP insisted that such acts must stop. IGP Adamu maintained that Police must demonstrate competent, firm leadership and ensure respect for citizens or risk being discipline.
The IGP also decorated forty Deputy inspector General of police to the rank of commissioners of police. The elevation was based on the principle of seniority and merit.
Between January 2019 to date, a total of ten thousand, one hundred and fourteen officers have been promoted on merit.
