The House of Representatives has directed the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission to immediately suspend its recent increase in tariff.
Its Committee on Power gave the directive in Abuja after a meeting with the Ministry, NERC and electricity distribution companies.
The lawmakers also frowned at what it calls an abuse of the law with the relocation of the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company from the Ministry of Power to the Ministry of Finance.
The parliament faults NERC’s claim that the law empowers it to carry out tariff review twice a year.
It insisted the Bill prohibiting estimated bill now before President Muhammadu Buhari requires to be assented to before the government can contemplate any form of tariff review.
