The National Assembly said it is currently exploring all options within its constitutional capacity to find sustainable solutions to the country’s current security challenges.
This follows long weeks of deliberations and engagement with Security agencies and the Executive arm of government.
National Assembly correspondent, Tijesu Adeoye reports that daily reports on the rising level of insecurity in the country has has brought a lot of unease to Federal Lawmakers, who now maintain constant engagements with security agencies as part of desperate efforts to find a solution.
The National Assembly began the year with extensive talks on insecurity and resolutions, ranging from the need for community policing to a Call for the dismissal of Service Chiefs.
The legislature went a step further by inviting heads of security agencies to provide a situation report , and they also held extensive talks with the executive arm of government. But Nigerians fear that all the engagements have not prevented the situation from getting worse.
Some lawmakers have called for collaboration at all levels of government and a total overhaul of the country’s Security structure rather than the unending blame games.
The coming weeks will be critical as the pressure continues to pile on security chiefs and the inspector general of police to secure the country and end the killings that is fast becoming widespread.
