Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health has confirmed the first case of coronavirus after a man in his 50s died in the capital Khartoum on Tuesday
The health ministry said the citizen had earlier been to the United Arab Emirates, where dozens of cases have been reported.
Sudan has suspended flights from China, Iran, Italy, Spain and Japan.
The deadly virus is spreading further into Africa. Ghana and Kenya have recorded their first cases, while Senegal now has five new cases.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization said Europe is now the “epicentre” of the global coronavirus pandemic.
This comes as reports of new infections increase daily, even beyond the rate it did in China, at the height of the outbreak.
The Director General of the World health Organisation identified that the continent has reported more infections and deaths from COVID-19, than the combined rest of the world, apart from China.
According to him, any country that looks at the experience of other countries with large epidemics and looks down on the reality of happenings, would be making a deadly mistake because the situation can duplicate itself any country.
