The House of Representatives said the frequent strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), is capable of collapsing the country’s tertiary education if not quickly addressed.
The lawmakers made this known on Tuesday.
Representative Bagos while speaking on the matter, noted that the reoccurring strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities is the reason for the education tourism of Nigerians abroad.
He called on the House to interface between the Federal Ministry of Education and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to avert any industrial action.
Also, representative Oriyomi Onanuga said it unfortunate that ASUU issues keep resurfacing after all parties have signed an agreement.
In his own contribution, Representative Rimamnde Shawulu said education tourism drains the country’s forex and called for the development of public and private institutions to discourage education tourism.
The house therefore called on its committee on education to interface between the Ministry of Education and Academic Staff Union of Universities and ensure the matter is resolved.
