Delta govt provides free one year health scheme to IDPs The devastating flood has damaged various communities in 19 of Delta State's 25 local government areas, making it one of the country's ten worst-affected states, with an unimaginable number of people displaced and living in over 20 internally displaced persons camps. To care for the large number of displaced people, which the state government has been undertaking with assistance from the federal government and other organizations, is a significant humanitarian catastrophe. The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria is collaborating with the state government to bring succour to the people devastated by the flood. The distribution of the items in Asaba continues to the three IDP centres set up by the Delta State government. Plans are underway on how to resettle these people even as the flood water recedes gradually from their homes Aside feeding and housing, the health of the people is of paramount importance to the state Government as it is providing free one year registration for all persons living in these temporary accommodations into the state health insurance scheme to further cater for their health needs.
