An election of the Enugu chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association turned bloody on Thursday when the exercise was disrupted by aggrieved Resident Doctors alleging that the Union denied them access to participate in the exercise.
The exercise which took place at the Michael Okpara Square, had representatives of the ten medical units in the state, which later turned bloody when the aggrieved group stormed the venue.
Issues related to check off dues and levies not remitted were some reasons adduced for the disqualification of some members from participating in the exercise.

There were counter accusations over the suspension of the outgoing NMA Chairman, Dr. Ike Okwesili and the purported installation of Dr. Onyedikachi Ugwuonye which was not resolved before the election suffered a stalemate.
Pressure is mounting on the national body to mediate in the brewing crisis to restore sanity in the State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association
