Bollywood star, Amitabh Bachchan has tested negative for COVID-19 and has been discharged from the hospital, three weeks after being admitted with “mild” symptoms after he tested positive.
Mr Bachchan’s son Abishek, who was admitted at the same time, will remain in hospital, while his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai and granddaughter were discharged last week.
They were the highest-profile family in India to catch the virus.
Fans of Bollywood actor were seen chanting prayers in front of his statue, in Kolkata as they held a special prayer for him, after he tested positive for COVID- 19.
The Bachchans are often called Bollywood’s first family. Amitabh Bachchan’s wife, Jaya, is also an actress and a one-time member of Parliament.
More than 1.7 million people have now been infected in India and more than 37,000 have died.
