The Senate has directed its Committees on Petroleum Downstream and Gas Resources to investigate the causesof tanker explosions in parts of the country, with a view to preventing a recurrence.
This resolution is sequel to the consideration of a motion brought to the floor by Senator Solomon Olamilekan, representing Lagos West district.
The senate is also urging regulatory and licensing authorities to review their mode of operation, safety procedures and licensing regimes in Nigeria.
Lawmakers believe it will help to avert unwarranted deaths and destruction of property caused by gas explosions.
The committees were directed to present their findings in two weeks.
