European countries have continued to implement lockdown measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 as they grapple with a second wave which saw a surge in new infections.
Another 26,860 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 1,344,356, this is according to official figures released Saturday.
Britain is the first European nation to record more than 50,000 coronavirus deaths. It is the fifth country in the world to hit the tragic milestone, following the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico.
Germany began to adopt stricter prevention and control measures on Nov. 2 for a period of four weeks.
The Greek government announced on Saturday the closure of nurseries and primary schools until the end of November. Distance learning has been implemented in high schools and universities.
Greece has fared better than many other European countries in tackling the coronavirus, mainly due to an early nationwide lockdown imposed weeks after the pandemic broke out in February.
