Residents of coastal township on Australia’s Heritage-listed Fraser Island have been advised to evacuate as a bushfire approached on Sunday.
The bushfire which was sparked by an illegal campfire seven weeks ago has blackened half the island off Australia’s north eastern coast.
Officials say there are over 90 personnel, 38 vehicles and 17 aircraft working on Fraser Island including a large air tanker to ensure the fire is contained.
Australia has been experiencing hotter and longer summers.
Strong winds and temperatures of up to 32 degrees Celsius are predicted on the Island again today as a heatwave continues to scorch parts of Queensland
