Sokoto State government has taken delivery of consignments of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Federal Government.
Sixty eight thousand six hundred and sixty doses were delivered to officials of the state government at the Sultan Abubakar III international airport.
Sokoto State commissioner for health and chairman of the COVID-19 taskforce Ali Iname says the state have adequate storage facilities as well as marshalled out plans for sensitization of members of the public on the importance of the the vaccine.
He said on the priority list to be vaccinated are health workers in the front line of fight against COVID-19 as well as other health workers in all the health facilities across the state
According to him political leadership in the state as well as traditional rulers and religious leaders will follow on the list of persons to be vaccinated
Similarly officials of Kebbi state led by it’s executive secretary Primary Health Development Agency Ka’oje Mohammed said the state take delivery of fifty seven thousand eighty hundred and ten doses of the vaccine.
He said Kebbi state has devised a sensitization strategy using prominent people and traditional rulers as well as engaging the media to counter the anti vaccine campaigns in and around the state
According to him storage facilities is not a challenge for Kebbi state as adequate provisions have been made as he assured that the state will not received vaccine beyond their storage capacity.
On the efficacy of the vaccine Ka’oje said the vaccine has been proven to have the capacity to induced immunity of individual that takes the vaccines.
He said this has been proven even in other countries of the works where the vaccine have been used and the case will not be different in Nigeria
