The Director General of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Salihu Lukman has said the governing All Progressives Congress must be a party with a leadership that is united, disciplined, and respectful to achieve the goal of producing a new Nigeria.
He stated this in a statement signed by him on Sunday. Mr Lukman said People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and their supporters, are promoters of challenges of insecurity facing the country.
He says opposition politicians and their supporters have become unreceptive to efforts to mobilise Nigerians to forge strong unity towards ending insecurity in the country.
He acknowledged that problem of cattle rustling in the North-West and North-Central has graduated to banditry and it is assuming a war situation.
He said, it should also be recognised that the fight against Boko Haram has made significant progress, Unlike 2015 when most parts of the North-East was under the control of insurgents, which is no longer the case.
The PGF director general added that the challenges in the case of fighting banditry and Boko Haram are what the APC led government of President Muhammadu Buhari is responding to.
Mr Lukman alluded to the fact that, both the APC and the Federal Government need to evolve new strategy of problem-solving communication in the country.
He says part of the objective should be to facilitate partnership to communicate activities of the party, and the government through engagement with major national players ,non-governmental actors, civil society, labour, traditional and religious leaders, women, youths, persons with disability.
The goal of partnership he says is to generate public awareness around initiatives of governments, especially the Federal Government, as there should be regular consultations to engage Nigerians aimed at reviewing progress being made to address national challenges.
Speaking on the consultative activities with major national players, initiatives to rebuild, re-orient organisations of civil society and labour movement should be developed based on a strategy to ensure that civil society and labour leaders, directly supervise and coordinate initiatives.
Salihu Lukman advised that Part of the task of reviewing progress in addressing national challenges will be to ensure that the current strategy of excessive politicization of insecurity by the PDP and their supports must be stopped.
