A final year student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Chidinma Ogbonna, female, has been crushed to death by a truck conveying goods to its location around the Umuahia industrial market,Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road,Abia state.
In a telephone interview, the Public Relations Officer of the Students Union Government of the University, Chijioke Emmanuel, who confirmed the accident said the girl was crushed by the trailer as it’s break failed while ascending the hilly part of the road and slid back while on a gridlock, crushing the student who stepped down from a vehicle around a bad spot on the road.
He lamented over the suffering students were experiencing due to the bad nature of the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road, which he described as death trap, adding that the road has led to the untimely death of many students.
Meanwhile the students of the university has since taken to the road on a protest to lament the bad nature of the road and loss of lives of many student of the high institution blocking both side of the road leading to Umuahia and ikot-Ekpene axis until the state government wade into the matter.
