The wife of Anambra State’s immediate past governor, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, has picked her expression of interest and nomination forms to compete for the Senate seat of Anambra North District in the 2023 general election.
This comes just hours after the former governor’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Primus Odili, stated his intention to compete for the same position.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Willie Obiano’s Senior Special Adviser, Mr Uloka Chuks, Ebelechukwu Obiano was accompanied to the All Progressives Grand Alliance National Secretariat in Abuja by party members, stakeholders, transition committee chairpersons, and a large number of supporters, where she purchased her nomination form.
Obiano announced her desire to her supporters and party faithful in early March at her home in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
She stated that the situation of the people, particularly women and children from her constituency’s rural towns, influenced her choice to listen to demonstrations and requests from various individuals and organizations in order to represent the zone at the 10th National Assembly.
The former first lady, who founded the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, insisted that her motivation is to serve God and humanity, not to gain political power.
In response to inquiries at the APGA National Secretariat, Mrs Obiano stated that she will continue her fight for a better life for women and children in Anambra North and Nigeria in the Senate Chambers by pushing for Bills and discussion motions that will benefit them.
Chief Paul Iwuala, the state chairman of the APGA in Imo State, was among those who sponsored Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano’s senatorial ambition and vowed assistance in various capacities.
Iwuala maintained that her selfless service and commitment to her husband, the former governor and present National Leader and BoT Chairman of APGA, Willie Obiano, has helped sustain and stabilize the party, adding that it is time for the party to appreciate and reward their leader for his uncommon leadership.
“We trust in her capacity to speak for us, protect our interest and that of our region and children, nkea bu nke anyi,” Iwuala said.
