The Chinese mainland has reported 54 new locally-transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 25 in Beijing, 14 in Inner Mongolia, 13 in Shanghai and two in Liaoning, the National Health Commission reported on Wednesday.
The commission said nine of the new locally-transmitted cases, eight in Inner Mongolia and one in Shanghai, were re-confirmed to be active cases from asymptomatic ones.
There has been no record of new deaths.
Meanwhile, 47 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, including 31 local ones and 16 imported ones, and 6,807 close contacts were released from mandatory medical observation. The number of severe cases has doubled over the previous day.
The Chinese mainland reported 18,953 imported cases, with no fatalities.
There is currently one suspected case. 212 are still active, with no serious symptoms, and 18,741 have been discharged from the hospital after recovering.
In total, 218,879 patients had recovered and been released from hospitals, with 5,226 people dying as a result of the virus.
On the same day, 158 asymptomatic carriers were discovered on the Chinese mainland, with 93 imported and 65 local.
There were 327 asymptomatic cases, including 261 local ones and 66 imported ones, newly released from mandatory medical observation. Thirteen, including four imported ones, were re-confirmed to be active cases from asymptomatic ones on the same day.
The commission also said 333,830 confirmed cases had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, including 9,391 deaths. A total of 62,950 patients had been discharged from hospitals.
