The Executive Director National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib disclosed this during an interaction with the officials of Oyo state primary health care centres in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
There are about 30,000 Primary Healthcare facilities across Nigeria with a primary responsibility to provide access to basic healthcare to the people and improve well being.
Currently, the state of the Primary Health Centres across the country are in need of an upgrade as only about 20% of the 30,000 Health Centres are optimally functional.
To change this narrative, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency is making effort to achieve a proper integration of COVID – 19 vaccination and childhood immunization across the country.
The increasing brain drain and it’s effect on the shrinking health workforce is another major challenge for Primary Healthcare Centres, as the few health workers prefer to serve at secondary and tertiary health centres.
