The Katsina State Government has commenced immediate resettlement of over 12,000 displaced persons back to their homes in Shinfida village in Jibia local government after months of disharmony and uncertainties.
Shinfida village came into limelight some months ago, when bandits took over the affairs of the area after the sudden withdrawal of the military personnel stationed there which compelled many to relocate to safer areas.
After months of seeking solutions that would enable them to return home and settle down for the farming season, the people of shinfida have summoned the courage to return home at all costs.
This is the first wave of the over 6,000 people being evacuated from Jibia Town to Shinfida Village, which is 50 kilometers away from this camp.
The village had previously enjoyed relative tranquility and security forces protection, but an ambush was orchestrated by bandits against numerous security personnel and citizens along the road connecting the area.

The area became very volatile due to increasing bandit attacks and frequent killings and kidnappings as a result of the proximity of the area to Rugu forest and zamfara state.
The State Government has on many occasions discouraged the idea of people remaining in IDP camps for too long.
And while the people are themselves eager to return home, there is need for the state government to institute a process that will ensure livelihoods are revived and destroyed houses rebuilt.
The community used to be a commercial hub for the surrounding villages, as well as a school for the students.
However, the school and medical dispensary have since been converted into a military base for the people’s security.
