Operatives of Ipakodo Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 34-year-old man, Emmanuel Rolland, for duping unsuspecting passengers turned victims.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin who confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement on Monday, August 8, 2022, said that he was apprehended on Friday, July 29, at about 11:20am along Ipakodo road after his victim raised alarm.
“Investigation revealed that the suspect, alongside his co-conspirators (still at large), while operating in a Volkswagen Jetta saloon car, with registration number JJJ 27 DG, disguised as driver and passengers, picked unsuspecting passengers, and started discussions about some money purportedly kept in the boot.
“The suspect confessed to having started this crime in January, adding that he was arrested on his sixth outing. Effort is in top gear to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and other perpetrators of such crime,” the PPRO stated.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, had directed that the case be transferred to the state police headquarters for further investigations and prosecution.
The issue of petty criminals, one chance robbers and Others have been a growing menace in Lagos over the past few months and the Police have also launched a crackdown on such criminals.
This arrest is aprt of the efforts aimed at ensuring that criminals masquerading as passengers to disposses Lagos residents of their belongings have no hidng place.
The State Government has also as part of efforts aimed at enhancing Security across the State also put in place measures to ensure their is no breachj of Security especially after the alarm raised on the influx of alleged Terrorists, Bandist and their Collaborators into the Southern part of the Country.
The State governmentb has assured residents over the last few weeks of the readiness of Security agents, agencies and the State Government to rise to teh challenge of preventing a Security Breach.
