An electronic data tool aimed at supporting surveillance and response at the national centre for disease control and state public health emergency operations has been launched.
The data analytic visualization tool is an electronic case management software that will be used to integrate epidemiological and laboratory data during routine response and outbreak management
The importance of using data tools for routine response management to outbreaks cannot be overstated, especially at a time when the entire world is dealing with one pandemic after another.

The Nigerian health system continues to experience several infectious disease outbreaks year after year, emphasising the importance of addressing the issue through data management.
This is why the launch of the data analytics and Visualization tool is expected to serve as a way of pulling together data to make the right decisions for local response to outbreaks.
According to experts, this will serve as a platform to ensure that Nigeria’s surveillance system remains operational.
Public health not only functions to provide adequate and timely medical care, but also tracks, monitor and control disease outbreak.
Throughout the several responses to outbreaks, data has played a key role in getting the numbers out there to empower those at the fore front of the response and this cannot be effective without building the capacity of those who will use these data tools.
This new data tool will play a part in the future of the country’s surveillance systems in order to help strengthen the emergency response system.
