The South-East Zonal Office of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, has finalised plans to collaborate with the Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, to protect consumer rights.
The agreement was signed when the FCCPC’s South-East Zonal team, led by its coordinator, Mr. Anthony Nwafor, paid an advocacy visit to the Anambra State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Chukwudi Chikere, at his office in Awka.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Nwafor noted that the FCCPC had the duty of advancing and defending the interests of consumers in a cutthroat marketplace as a government body.
Mr. Nwafor prioritised provision of security coverage during operations in markets and companies among others within the state as major area of synergy.
Commandant Chikere lauded FCCPC for its zeal and determination in protecting unsuspecting consumers from unethical practices by some traders, manufacturers and service providers which according to him, are not in the best interest of consumers.
The commandant also assured the FCCPC team of their readiness to provide security when the need arises, as well as aiding in investigations, gathering and sharing of intelligence reports, since both agencies have the same mandate to protect lives and properties of Nigerian Consumers.
